In their efforts to combat illegal drugs on the streets, members of the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office recently conducted an investigation into illicit drug activity in the area. The investigation led to the seizure of drugs and guns as well as the arrests of two individuals. Now, those accused are likely considering their options for mounting an effective criminal defense as they answer the charges against them.
Investigation and arrests
Reportedly, the sheriff’s office had received many reports and complaints from concerned citizens regarding suspected illegal drug activity in their community. Officers with the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office then executed a search warrant at a residence on Sipe Road. They report that they found methamphetamine and weapons as well as ammunition inside the home.
Deputies made two arrests following the search. A 45-year-old man from Statesville was charged with drug paraphernalia possession. A 31-year-old from Taylorsville was charged with numerous offenses, including possession of a gun as a felon and drug-related charges. The latter received a $100,000 bond, while the 45-year-old’s bond was set at $2,500.
Right to defense
Each of the accused is presumed innocent in the eyes of the law unless and until convicted by competent evidence that is found to be beyond a reasonable doubt. Considering the seriousness of the charges against them, they will want to work closely with an experienced criminal defense attorney in North Carolina. A lawyer can analyze all evidence obtained in the search, as well as the validity of the search itself, in an attempt to help a client obtain the best outcome possible.
