Three men were recently arrested in North Carolina following a shootout at a gas station. Reports do not state the reason for the shootout, but video of the incident shows several people involved. Now, those arrested are likely considering their options for mounting a criminal defense against the charges they face.

Incident details and arrests

Sometime in the afternoon of Saturday, May 28, a white car pulled up to the gas pumps at a gas station in Henderson. Already parked at the pumps was a black car. Video shows a young man emerging from the backseat of the white car with what looks like a firearm tucked into his waist. Another individual was just inside the door of the gas station, apparently communicating with the man who had just gotten out of the white car. Suddenly, shots rang out, apparently coming from an occupant in the black car. What resulted was a melee of gun fire, and one innocent bystander ducked for cover as he tried to make it to his own vehicle. The building of the gas station was also hit, resulting in broken glass and bullet holes in the structure. No one inside was hurt, reportedly.

Following the incident, three individuals turned themselves in to authorities. One man was listed as 21 years old, and he is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, discharging a firearm in city limits and discharging a firearm into occupied property. A juvenile, 17, also gave himself up to police, and another man, age not given, was charged with discharging a firearm in city limits and discharging a firearm into occupied property.

Right to defense

The fact the accused are caught on video during the incident may present a challenge for their defense counsel. Still, an astute criminal defense attorney in North Carolina will analyze all aspects of the incident and work aggressively to help protect the clients’ rights and liberties. By working with a defense lawyer, these men will stand a much better chance of answering the charges against them with the hopes of obtaining the best outcome possible.
